After our 2021-22 Season, filled with many triumphs returning to in-person singing in the rehearsals room, concert hall, and in our community, we turn our focus towards centering humanity and building strong relationships through choir. This season, as Columbia Choirs enters its 39th year of music-making, we will celebrate “A Season of Gratitude and Belonging”.
Here’s a message from Artistic Director, Katrina Turman, about the significance of this year’s theme:
Our 39th season honors the past, present, and future of Columbia Choirs. In this season of Gratitude and Belonging, we first give thanks for what we have accomplished over nearly four decades. Columbia Choirs has shared music with choirs across the globe, developed a strong team of expert artistic staff, and consistently performs for our local community. We acknowledge the incredible accomplishments of the past, but why stop there? Let us look forward and open our scope wider. In this season, Columbia Choirs will work to increase access to the choral arts even further through expanded programs, diverse programming, and new community connections. We aim to create a space where everybody, no matter their background, will feel they belong.
The season of Gratitude and Belonging will explore music by indigenous composers, repertoire that celebrates the joy of singing, and multi-cultural songs which represent the diverse world that surrounds us and the vital space they take up in the choral community.
Our 2022-23 Season will include the presentation of six public concerts featuring the various levels of our choirs. We hope you will join us for one or more of the concerts below to celebrate the themes of gratitude and belonging through music.
